Bachelor of Nursing, Post-Diploma Program

Please note that applications will open for the PDBN program in October 2016 for start in Fall of 2017.


Upon completion of the Post-Diploma Bachelor of Nursing program, the graduate will be able to:

  • Synthesize concepts from the humanities, natural sciences and social sciences with nursing knowledge in the practice of nursing.
  • Demonstrate caring in nursing practice.
  • Apply the nursing process based upon conceptual frameworks of nursing.
  • Provide nursing care throughout the life cycles of individuals, families, groups and communities.
  • Demonstrate independent, interdependent and collaborative roles in the practice of nursing to promote, maintain and restore health of individuals, families, groups and communities, and when life is no longer sustainable, to assist in coping with the dying process.
  • Demonstrate accountability for the professional practice of nursing within current legal, ethical and professional standards.
  • Apply research findings in the practice and for the advancement of nursing.
  • Accept responsibility for self-directed, continuous professional development.


A future post-diploma student holds a diploma from the Higher Institute of Nursing in Qatar or from an institution accredited in Canada. They are able to work as a Nurse, but want to improve their practice and theory to move into leadership or graduate programs (Masters or PhD programs). They are excited about Nursing and passionate about the future of health care.


We encourage students to apply to our program to allow us to work with you in obtaining the following criteria:

  • A Diploma from the Higher Institute of Nursing or a Diploma Registered in Canada
    If your Nursing diploma was obtained outside of Qatar or Canada, please click here for more information.
  • A Grade Point Average of 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale
  • Completion of a Grade 12 English course (must be approved as equivalent to Alberta Grade 12):
  • English Language Proficiency
  • Qatari Citizenship, a Qatar Resident's Permit or the ability to seek Permanent Residency through a Family member (UCQ Does NOT have the ability to issue Student Visas)
  • The ability to attend classes during the day (full-time program 2 years) or the ability to attend classes a minimum of one full day a week as well as during the evenings on a part-time basis (part-time program 4+ years)

*If you are admitted, any documents not in English must be submitted in both the original language and as a certified translation in English.
