The University of Calgary in Qatar (UCQ) hosted a special event on Monday, May 15th, to celebrate International Nurses Day, a day dedicated to honouring the invaluable contributions of nurses worldwide. The event was a heartfelt tribute to the remarkable work of nurses and their tireless efforts to promote health and wellness.

To mark the occasion, UCQ organised a special celebration for faculty members, students and staff in the Multipurpose Hall on campus. The event featured a delightful lunch and thoughtful gifts for attendees as a token of gratitude and appreciation for their exceptional contributions to healthcare.

"As we proudly celebrate the remarkable contributions made by nurses worldwide, we acknowledge their embodiment of compassion, resilience, and unwavering dedication. Today, we reaffirm our commitment to support and empower our nurses, ensuring they continue to shine as beacons of light, care, and healing in Qatar and beyond,"

said Professor Hala Al Easa, President of UCQ, during her keynote speech.

During the event, faculty, staff and students had the opportunity to engage in thought-provoking discussions, further enriching their connection. The event fostered an atmosphere of learning and growth, inspiring students to continue their nursing journeys.

UCQ Dean, Dr. Deborah White, reaffirmed the value of nurses in her short speech: "On this Nurses Day, let us celebrate the enduring contributions of our nurses and students to the health and wellness of society. Through their selfless service, expertise, and art nurses are a cornerstone of healthcare, offering so much to the State and the public.

The event was also an opportunity to show appreciation to all of those that support the incredible nurses who are practitioners, educators, researchers, and decision and policymakers.

International Nurses Day, observed on May 12th each year, commemorates the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, the pioneer of modern nursing. This global celebration aims to highlight the crucial role nurses play in providing compassionate care to individuals and communities. It serves as a reminder to acknowledge and express gratitude for their dedication and expertise.

Every year, UCQ takes the opportunity to honour the incredible work of nurses by hosting a special event on International Nurses Day. The celebration is a testament to the university's commitment to fostering a supportive and nurturing environment for its students, as they progress in their academic journey to becoming nurses. It also serves as reminder to everyone of the vital role nurses play in transforming lives and the profound impact they have on individuals and communities.
