University of Calgary in Qatar: The Basics

The best place to start is with the basics. 

Why do you need a UCQ student ID card?

  • Access to library resources
  • Identification in clinical placements
  • Borrowing laptops
  • Writing final exams
  • Signing out recreational equipment
  • Getting a locker

 

How do you get a UCQ student ID card?

  • Bring a Photo to Maha at Enrollment Services when you come to pick up your welcome package
  • ID Cards are made at University of Calgary Main Campus and can take up to 5 months to arrive. Asking for your ID card sooner will not result in your ID card arriving sooner.
  • Alumni can have their cards reactivated by contacting Maha in Student Services.

 

Lost or damaged card?

  • Replacement cards cost 75 QAR
  • Pay the replacement card fee at the Finance Office and bring the receipt to Maha in Student Services to order a new card.
  • ID Cards are made at University of Calgary Main Campus and can take up to 5 months to arrive. Asking for your ID card sooner will not result in your ID card arriving sooner.

  • Textbooks are available from the bookstore (room G49) at the start of each semester
  • Opening hours will be posted outside of the bookstore

 

How do you get a locker?

  • Visit the Facilities Department
  • Bring your UCQ student ID card

 

Conditions

  • Only one locker per student
  • You may keep the locker for the duration of your academic study and return the key to the Facilities Department before you graduate or leave UCQ.
  • You must keep your locker clean and not store any perishable items
  • A 100 QR fee will be charged for damaged lockers, lost keys, or unreturned keys
  • All locker tenants are responsible for their own property. UCQ is not responsible for locker contents, lost, or stolen items at any time during or after the rental period
  • Report any acts of vandalism to Campus Security or Reception

Wireless internet is available on campus. Visit the IT department in G38 for help connecting your laptop, tablet, or smart phone to the University wi-fi.

Parking

  • Students parking personal vehicles on campus must display a UCQ parking pass, visit security at main reception to request a parking pass (bring your ID, Operators license, and valid car registration)
  • Parking passes are non-transferrable
  • Park in designated parking spaces
  • Students parking unlawfully or in a dangerous manner will be requested to move their vehicle
  • Do not park in designated handicapped parking spaces, students with issued medical certificates can register with Health and Safety and Security Office and will be allowed to use the handicapped parking spaces as needed
  • The campus parking lot entry gate is supervised by a security guard 24 hours a day, students are expected to listen to direction given by security personnel on parking requirements
  • Do not park o have your driver wait in the fire lane for any length of time, instead use a parking space and pull up only when a student is at the front and ready for pick-up
  • Students who are dropped off by drivers or family do not require a parking pass
  • If parking pass is lost a replacement can be ordered of a fee of 50QR
  • Parking passes must be returned to Campus Security when you graduate or leave UCQ

A student with repeat violations will be referred to the Health and Safety and Security Advisor, and Student Services, and may face disciplinary actions outlined in the non-academic misconduct policy
