What does Equity, Diversity and Inclusion(EDI) mean?

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) is vital to creating and maintaining a successful environment where all people can thrive personally, professionally, and academically. EDI recognizes the value of diverse voices and centers on inclusivity and community wellbeing as central facets of success. To bring those values to life, UCQ implements several programs and initiatives that actively make our campus a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive space. 

EDI Contest (2022)

This project can be completed independently OR in a small group of 4 students from the same or different years.

Up to 10 projects will receive an award of QAR 1000.

 

The deadline for submission is February 22nd.


Project Requirements - Your reflection should include a description of the following:

  • How the literature defines equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • What equity, diversity, and inclusion mean to the nursing profession.
  • The importance of equity, diversity, and inclusion in terms of education and health care.
  • Your personal perspective of equity, diversity, and inclusion and their impact on you.
  • Recommendations for how UCQ can enhance its commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion as well as create an environment that is more equitable and inclusive.

Approach

For this project, the individual or team can choose to submit:

  1. A 3-6 page narrative description of equity, diversity, and inclusion
  2. (or) An artistic poster representing Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
  3. (or) A video that captures what Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion mean to you

Paper

(Option 1)

  • The paper should be double spaced and include a minimum of 5 references.
  • The page requirement excludes the reference list, title page, and appendixes.
  • The paper must conform to APA 7th edition guidelines.
  • Allowed file extensions: .txt .pdf .doc .docx

Poster

(Option 2)

Visual Impact

  • Can stand alone as a clear communication of the project without the team or person present.
  • Should be a balance of text, figures, photos, and space.
  • Should have overall visual appeal: color and font choices should be appropriate.

Creativity

  • Impact of the poster in fostering self-reflection
  • Impact of the poster in promoting unity and understanding
  • Impact of the poster in promoting inclusivity

Reflection

  • A thoughtful reflection on the relevance of equity, diversity, and inclusion within nursing and nursing education is submitted with the poster.

Technical

  • Allowed file extensions: .gif .jpg .png
  • Maximum file size 20 MB.

Video

(Option 3)

  • The overall style and organization of the video highlight the students' description of each required element.
  • The subject is introduced and catches viewers’ attention.
  • Music and/or words were loud enough.
  • Written and spoken text are free from errors in spelling, grammar, and/or mechanics.
  • A thoughtful reflection on the relevance of equity, diversity, and inclusion within nursing and nursing education is submitted with the video.
  • The duration of the video should not exceed 10 minutes.
  • Upload your video on YouTube or Vimeo and post the link on the submission form. While uploading your video on YouTube please choose "Unlisted" or "Public". DO NOT CHOOSE THE "PRIVATE" OPTION.
