Life in Qatar: The Basics

The State of Qatar is a rapidly evolving country. In addition to the State's many beaches and hospitable people, the capital city of Doha offers a cosmopolitan ambiance in a clean, safe environment.

Qatar is family-friendly and offers a variety of fascinating experiences both locally and within short travel distances. Qatar provides access to a range of cultural, sporting, and entertainment events that would be hard to match anywhere in the world.

 

Climate

The sub-tropical climate, while very warm in the summer, is moderate in the winter, and perfect for outdoor activities. Average temperatures range from 20 degrees Celsius during winter months to 45 degrees Celsius during the summer. Many people enjoy kayaking, sailing, walking and running in the cooler months.

 

Demographics

Qatar is the home of over 2.1 million people, with Qatari nationals making up approximately 15% of that number. The student population at UCQ includes representatives of more than 33 nations.

 

Canadian Embassy in Qatar

The Canadian Embassy was first established in Doha, Qatar in 2012, primary to promote trade and business relationship between the two countries.

On June 5, 2014, Canada officially opened its Embassy to the public in the State of Qatar after recognizing the strong positive relationship and mutual interests on regional issues, as well as growing business opportunities. Approximately 9,000 Canadians live in Qatar and work in various private and public industries.

The Canadian Embassy offers services to the public, including passport renewal, consular assistance, and assistance provided by the Trade Commissioner Service to help Canadian companies identify business opportunities in Qatar, while at the same time to help Qataris identify investment opportunities in Canada.

Regarding visa services, the Government of Canada is in discussions to open a Visa Application Centre in Doha that will assist people living in Qatar to apply for a visa for Canada. Until such time, visa applications still need to be sent to the Visa Application Centre in Abu Dhabi.
