Life in Qatar: The Perks

Shopping

Shoppers rejoice! Doha boasts a number of large and luxurious shopping centres housing a wide range of well-known shops and international brands. Qatar's extravagant shopping malls are clean, spacious and air-conditioned, with plenty of free or low-cost parking and are a pleasant retreat from the summer heat. There are no end of attractions to keep you entertained as most malls include multi-screened cinemas, children's play zones, bowling alleys and a multitude of restaurants. Some malls even have ice skating rinks with organized hockey leagues.

A more traditional Qatar shopping experience can be found in the souqs, where Bedouins and city dwellers used to trade all ranges of items from pearls, gold, and camels, to fabrics, spices, house wares, and groceries. Today the souqs offer their goods from market stalls that still retain the spirit of the old bazaar.

The souqs are safe and friendly places to shop, eat, or just relax with a traditional Turkish coffee.

And best of all, there is no sales tax in Qatar!
