The University of Calgary in Qatar’s 4th-year nursing students, faculty, and staff visited Heenat Salma Farm for a day dedicated to cultural immersion, hands-on learning, and reflection. This trip provided an opportunity to step away from the academic and professional setting and engage in meaningful experiences that fostered mindfulness and appreciation for sustainability.

The day’s program included a farm tour, tree planting, maamoul and bread making, textile weaving, botanical art and clay workshops, Arabic calligraphy, and seasonal vegetable harvesting. Each activity highlighted traditional craftsmanship, sustainability, and the deep-rooted agricultural heritage of Qatar.

Beyond learning new skills, the visit allowed participants to appreciate the importance of regenerative agriculture and sustainable practices. Through hands-on workshops and shared experiences, students, faculty, and staff gained a deeper understanding of the connection between nature, culture, and well-being.

With moments of reflection, breaks for refreshments, and a farm-to-table lunch, the experience fostered a sense of mindfulness and appreciation for locally sourced food and traditional practices. The University of Calgary in Qatar values opportunities like this, which enrich both the personal and professional growth of its students and faculty.
