Dr. Kathleen Benjamin

Assistant Professor

Dr. Kathleen Benjamin is an assistant professor in the faculty of nursing at the University of Calgary in Qatar (UCQ).  She has worked in a variety of clinical settings during her nursing  career and spent 15 years focusing on the care of the elderly. She is a graduate of the Royal Victoria School of Nursing in Montreal, PQ, Canada. She obtained her BScN, MScN and PhD degrees from the University of Ottawa in Canada. She also holds a diploma in health services and policy research. Her Master’s thesis focused on the measurement of frail senior’s beliefs regarding physical activity. Her doctoral thesis was an Institutional Ethnographic study that explicated the social organization of personal support work in long term care related to the promotion of physical activity for elderly people.

Following her PhD, she completed a post-doctoral fellowship at UCQ. She has participated in funded research in Canada and Qatar. In Qatar, she was involved in a funded NPRP (6-049-3-009) focusing on the physical activity and healthy diets of Arabic-speaking adults and a UREP exploring the transitional experiences of post-diploma nurses returning to study for an undergraduate degree. Dr. Benjamin is a published author and has served on several committees in Canada related to fall prevention and the promotion of physical activity. She has also served on committees in Qatar related to the promotion of physical activity.
